Breast Cancer AwarenessFor my bat mitzvah project, I worked with Sharsheret, a national nonprofit organization supporting Jewish women and families facing breast and ovarian cancer. My project focused on raising awareness about the higher genetic risk of breast cancer among Ashkenazi Jews due to BRCA gene mutations.
Why This Matters
Ashkenazi Jewish women have a significantly higher chance of carrying BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene mutations, which increase the risk of breast and ovarian cancer. By raising awareness, more people can get tested and take preventive measures.
About Sharsheret
Sharsheret is a national nonprofit organization that supports Jewish women and families facing breast and ovarian cancer. Their programs focus on education, prevention, and support services for those affected by these diseases.
